Eunice Setona-Thelejane – Upcycling Bicycle Tubes!

Eunice Setona-Thelejane was born and raised in the Eastern Cape, but moved to Malmesbury to raise her children. She is a single mom, raising her son (19) who is at University at CPUT; and her daughter (13) who is at school in Malmesbury. She studied fashion but had to stop halfway due to a lack of funds. She is now studying part-time, but this year her studies were disrupted due to Covid. She loves Church, and is a radio DJ for a Xhosa online radio station (7441fm).

Eunice repurposes used bicycle tubes into new exciting products such as tube wallets and tube pouches. She is a valued employee at Cape Town cycling apparel company Ciovita, where she selects each tube, cleans and cuts it, and then meticulously pieces together the material, purposefully allowing old serial numbers, patches and past blemishes to continue to tell the story of the tube’s multiple lives.
