Educational Hiking and Cycling Outings for School Kids
AWOL Tours is offering special private hiking and cycling outings for local South African families.
Guaranteed daily departures for three hours at 10am – 1pm or 2pm -5pm (weather permitting) on various educational age appropriate outings are as follows:
Cape Town City Cycle Tours
Departing from the V&A Waterfront Clocktower taking children round Cape Town Stadium, Greenpoint ecopark, and Sea Point Promenade. These engaging and informative tours will give children an introduction into the complex history and landscape of early Cape Town.
Nature Walks and Hikes
Available for all ages. Parents can deliver children to Silvermine East at 10am daily. Each group of 4 children will be allocated a nature guide who will grade children into different interests and fitness abilities. For younger children, easy walks with treasure hunts and games; whilst older children can do walks up to the waterfall looking for tadpoles en route. For those that are keen we can even hike up to explore Boomslang caves.
Mountain Biking Skills Clinic
Parents can deliver children to Constantia Uitsig at 10am daily. Each group of 4 children will be allocated an experienced mountain biking guide who will grade children into different skills, abilities, and fitness. Trails will vary from the Bike Park, lower Tokai forest or upper Tokai and Silvermine, missing link trail in Camps Bay to the B-spot Bloemdal in Durbanville.
Transport options available on request at an additional fee of R200 per person. AWOL Tours has vehicles with transport permits, insurance and professional drivers with all the required licenses to transport children safely.
Minimum age is 8 years old and maximum age is 80 years. Yes, parents and grandparents are welcome to join on any of the outings!
All covid19 precautions are taken with bikes sanitised and wiped down after each experience. Small groups of only four children per tour guide.
Rates R350 per 3 hour session; or 5 sessions weekly package for R1500 per person. Essential to prebook and pay at least 24 hours prior to departure as limited capacity on each experience. Rates includes bicycle and helmet, but excludes entrance fees and transport. Your child will need to bring his or her own lunch box with healthy snacks, water bottle, sun hat, and be wearing comfortable old clothing and closed shoes. They may well get dirty or muddy! On warm days it’s an option to bring swimming costume and towel as on some outings swimming in rock pools may be an option. Please advise if you child can’t swim.
AWOL Tours is owned and operated by a Constantia Waldorf mom of two children aged 9 and 10 years with extensive hiking and cycling tour experience with children of all ages. All AWOL Tour guides are qualified with first aid certificates, professional drivers permits, police clearance checks and experienced guiding hiking and cycling tours with children.
