Green Spotlight on The Oakhurst Insurance Eden Xperience 2018

The 2018 Oakhurst Insurance Eden Xperience, the foremost outdoor sports and family event on the Garden Route is planned for the 7th and 8th September at the Glenwood House School in George. This flagship fundraiser for Glenwood House School attracts over 9000 people each year and offers a variety of outdoor events from serious competition to just plain fun. The two day festival is just bursting with fun-filled events for the whole family as well as food, drinks, and entertainment.

The Oakhurst Insurance Eden Xperience also contributes to the local community by supporting the charity programmes of the George Herald and Oakhurst Insurance. Says Lacy Mentz, Chairman of the Glenwood House Parents Association: “We are working towards a better tomorrow for everyone. We strive to be good citizens who want to make a difference. We are very excited about this year’s festival which promises great outdoor fun for the young and the young-at-heart!” The festival also supports Glenwood House School’s policy to reduce waste, reuse where possible and recycle.

Night run

The leading event of the festival is the George Herald “Run with the Stars” night run on Friday evening. A very popular event with running enthusiasts on the Garden Route, the 10km route starts and finishes at Glenwood House and travels through the neighbourhoods of Loerie Park and Eden. Don’t forget your headlamp! If the 10km is not for you, the 3km fun run/walk starts at 17h00 and offers lots of prizes.

Food and drink

On Friday evening, the food stalls and entertainment starts from 18h00. Don’t miss out on all the wonderful food, and drinks in the tents at the sports fields while relaxing in the early evening.

Trail runOn Saturday morning trail runners can look forward to the Sportsman’s Warehouse Trail Run taking runners through scenic terrain around private farmlands and forests. Trail runners will have a choice of two distances: 18km and 9km. For young beginner trail runners, a shorter 3km distance is on offer.

The family festival also celebrates the spirit of good sportsmanship with over 600 hockey players participating on the Glenwood House sports fields in the EdenX Prep-school Hockey Festival.

One of the highlights of the weekend is the Eden Xtreme Water Polo Festival, promising displays of great aquatic skills in the heated pool at Glenwood House. Invited competing schools hail from the Eastern, Western, and Southern Cape. Matched start from 8h00 until mid-afternoon on both Friday 7th September and Saturday 8th September.

Glenwood House School is very proud of our special partnership with Oakhurst Insurance, our main sponsor, and the George Herald that helps to make this event possible. In recognition of their enormous role in the success of the Eden Xperience a portion of the revenue is handed over to Oakhurst Insurance and the George Herald in support of their charity projects.
